Photographic Volunteer Adventure at
Project Somos Guatemala
Join us for five days of volunteering and learning together at Project Somos, Guatemala with Photographer and guest Volunteer Instructor, Kellie Bieser!
Here in the Central Highlands of Guatemala, you will be surrounded by the beauty of red quinoa fields, towering volcanoes, and a vibrant culture.
We will have daily classes on subjects ranging from family portraiture to landscape composition to documentary work and everything in between. You will have access to exclusive printed and online materials and will be part of a private educational community where you can continue to learn after your retreat.
Project Somos Children’s Village~orphan prevention & family preservation. Project Somos is an eco-sustainable community nestled in the beautiful Central Highlands of Guatemala. Families who have been living in extreme poverty are invited to come heal and learn on site.
Prior to coming to Project Somos, the women had no photos of their children. Nada. Here at Project Somos they are empowered to lift themselves out of poverty and to break that vicious cycle. Heather Knox, Co-Founder & Executive Director photographs the mamas and kids and prints some of the photos to share with them.
Now we’d love for the mamas to learn to take photos of their own kids and for the kids to learn how to take photos, too! Sharing our knowledge and passion for photography, we have the opportunity work with these mamas who long to document their kids—just like we do—and who also value the opportunity to have an artistic outlet.
Let’s grow together as photographers and women, all while giving back.
Project Somos has been welcoming volunteers since 2011. To date, they have welcomed close to 400 volunteers! It is always a very rewarding and fun experience for everyone, especially for the mamas and kids who love getting to meet knew friends from afar!
